This is an easy to cook sinigang dish using shrimps and vegetables. And you only need to buy a sachet of sinigang sa sampalok mix powder and no need to look for sampalok fruit (tamarind) to make this tasty and appetizing seafood dish! But if you want to go natural, you can take and extra step of boiling the tamarind fruit until tender, then mash the fruit with the liquid then strain it to extract the puree. Now you can use it instead of the instant sinigang mix.
How to Cook Sinigang na Hipon

Ingredients
- 1/2 kilo large shrimps cleaned and trimmed
- 1 to 1 and 1/2 liters water or rice washing
- 1 small sachet 22grams of Siningang sa sampalok mix
- 1 shrimp cube e.g. Knorr shrimp cube (optional)
- 1 red onion quartered
- 3 pcs tomatoes quartered
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. black peppercorns cracked
- 1 small radish sliced diagonally
- 5 pcs okra sliced into two
- 1 bunch kangkong sliced and remove large stem
Instructions
How to Cook Sinigang na Hipon
- Wash and clean the shrimps and trim by cutting off the antennae and carapace spikes.
- Add rice washing or water in a pot and bring to a boil. Add in onions and tomatoes. Cover and simmer until the tomatoes are soft.
- Add in the sinigang sa sampalok mix, black pepper, shrimp cube and salt. Stir and continue cooking for a few seconds. Taste the broth adjust the seasonings if necessary.
- Then add the radish, okra, siling haba and kangkong then bring to a boil. After a few seconds add the shrimps quickly and stir.
- Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes and stir. Don't overcook because it will taste better if the shrimps are half cooked.
- Turn off heat and serve hot. Enjoy!
